FIXE Team Member Spotlight: Kris Middleton-Kearns

Restaurant Bookkeeping

Kris Middleton-Kearns, who is known within the FIXE community as Kris Kay, was born and raised in San Diego. She earned her certificate in accounting from Foothills Adult School, and completed general accounting and managerial accounting at Cuyamaca College. Kris handled Accounts Receivable for a fire protection company, assisted with in-house bookkeeping while also being a server for a burger restaurant, and worked on the financial side of the pawn shop industry for seven years. She found out about FIXE through Veronica Delgado, a close friend and fellow Account Manager that she met in a previous job. Kris relocated to Las Vegas in 2022, not long after joining FIXE. Learn more about her FIXE journey and how she helps restaurant clients grow their businesses.

What initially attracted you to work for FIXE?

Bookkeeping/Accounting was the direction I wanted to pursue when it came to a career. I was lucky enough to find FIXE, to further my knowledge, and gain more experience in what I want to do.

How has your role at FIXE evolved over time?

I started out as an Assistant Account Manager. After a few months of learning more about how restaurant bookkeeping works, I evolved into an Account Manager. Some accounts I now focus on are multi-location restaurants. I feel proud that I’m able to handle and understand such complex books.

What life and business skills have you gained from working at FIXE?

In this business, you need to be very detail-oriented. That’s also helped me become more that way in my personal life. Also managing other people’s finances helps you to better manage your own. I have learned the importance of time management, planning, and organization.

What are your most satisfying aspects of helping FIXE clients?

Helping them stay on top of their accounts payable. Or reviewing vendor statements and giving them the insights they need on their financials. Providing the data that they need to make those really important business decisions is rewarding.

What is your preferred method of communicating with clients?

Email is usually the quickest, and most effective, but I’m always happy to jump on a call or text if needed.

What are your favorite aspects of being a FIXE Account Manager?

Giving clients the data they need, especially when they show gratitude for what I do, makes me feel really rewarded.

Who have your key mentors been at FIXE and what have they taught you?

Everyone at Fixe has been influential and helpful. Each restaurant is unique in some way, so when I am not familiar with something, there’s someone on the team willing to help, and support.

What are your future goals with FIXE?

My future goal with FIXE is to be in a position to be a team lead, and to reach another level of supporting others. Possibly in management at some point. With the development of the company, there’s more opportunity for growth.
